The new album by American rapper Kanye West Donda, which was released on August 29, set several world records on music streaming services at once. This is reported by the publication Variety.
The album reached the first place in the chart of the best albums of the Apple Music platform in 152 countries where the service is supported. It is also noted that 19 songs from Donda were included in the top twenty of the Apple Music Daily Top 100 Global Song list. All 27 tracks from the new release were included in the top 100 itself.
As Variety adds with reference to Apple, West’s new record broke the 2021 record for the number of album and artist page views in one day, and also became the third most played piece of music on the first day of release on Apple Music. In addition, Donda became the most listened — to release in one day in 2021 on Spotify. Previously, this record belonged to pop singer Olivia Rodrigo with her debut Sour.
On Sunday, August 29, Universal Music released the tenth studio album by American rapper Kanye West Donda. West accused the label of releasing the record without his knowledge and consent. Previously, on the Apple Music streaming platform, the Donda release date was September 3. For the first time, West announced his new studio album in the summer of 2020.
On the eve of the release of Donda, the hip-hop artist organized three events with a live presentation of the album. The last party, which was attended by the ex-wife of rapper Kim Kardashian in a wedding dress, took place on August 27 in Chicago. After it, according to the artist’s manager, the record should have been available for listening, but this did not happen.
